Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose a professional pet sitter over a friend or neighbor?

In addition to having much more experience in the daily care of pets like yours, a professional pet sitter has the experience to efficiently handle emergencies and take responsibility in situations where something has gone wrong. Professionals are also trained to spot illness and other problems that the untrained eye may not be able to notice, as well as medicate your pet and provide first aid. Professional sitters are also much more reliable, will not miss a visit or forget to complete tasks, and will generally put more time and effort into the care of your pets. They also maintain a professional relationship with you as the client, including prompt communication, responsibly handling your keys and home, and meticulous record keeping of your pets during their visits and of your payments. You can additionally have peace of mind that most professional sitters are fully insured (ask!), while a hobby-sitter will not be, and that a contract that you will sign will protect you in the event that something goes wrong while they are responsible for your pets and home.

How many visits per day do you recommend for a pet sitter to come?

The industry standard is at least 1 visit per 24 hour period for cats, most exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds; however, many clients opt for 2 visits per day for a second feeding, heat/light maintenance, etc. The standard for dogs is at least 3 visits per 24 hour period that you are gone, and for fish and invertebrates, it is recommended to do no less than a visit every other day.

Why did you close?

Alyssa is currently in veterinary school, and starting in January 2023 she is doing her externships and clinical rotations. It was a tough decision, but there simply isn't enough time to run a business during your clinical year! She is excited to become your exotic critter vet instead in the summer of 2024.

Where can I buy your products?

Our Etsy shop closed in December 2022, and we attended our last vendor event then as well. The remainder of our inventory went to a rabbit rescue to be resold and raise money for bunnies in need. Look out for the link to their shop soon!

Can you foster or help me re-home my pet?

Unfortunately, we are not able to foster or take relinquishments. However, we will gladly post an ad on social media on your behalf so that interested adopters may contact you.

Can you recommend a veterinarian in my area? OR, My pet is sick/injured, can you provide medical advice?

Non-veterinarians are not legally able to diagnose your pet or provide medical advice. However, we can give you tips on first aid or husbandry if you contact us with questions, and we always recommend seeking veterinary care when in doubt. See our "EXOTIC VETS" tab for recommended veterinarians and other information.

I just got/am getting a new pet and I'm not sure how to care for it, or need recommendations on food. Can you help?

You can check out some of our trusted resource sites on the "FEEDING & CARE" tab above, or contact us with additional questions.

I am looking for a new pet. Can you recommend a breeder?

Adopt, don't shop! We always recommend rescuing a pet in need if possible (and we are huge advocates for rabbit rescue especially!), but if you are looking for a more unusual pet, we may be able to help direct you. See our "RESCUES" tab for a list of our favorite rescues.
